Leader
During the lesson the leader is responsible for the horse. The leader works in a team with the coach and the side walker(s).
Volunteer with Pegasus.
Volunteers are vital to the operation and delivery of Pegasus’ horse-facilitated therapy programs and activities which assist children, youth and adults with disabilities. On any given week over the school term and in our school holiday programs, volunteers give their time to assist in delivering our programs.

Types of Volunteering
We have a range of roles to suit different skills, availability, and comfort levels — both on and off the horse.
Side Walker
During lessons the side walker is responsible for the rider. The side walker works in a team with the coach and the leader. Where there is more than one side walker, work as a team with only one person giving verbal instructions.Stable Hand
Stable hands undergo training in order to work in and around our herd safely. Stable hands work under instruction to clean and maintain our stables, feeding equipment, water troughs and yards for the health and well being of the poniesEvents
Pegasus derives a good proportion of its funding through a number of Events and Fundraising activities undertaken through out the year. In addition, we utilise grant funding to purchase operational items that otherwise could not be obtained. If your skill set includes grant writing, event experience or fundraising, we would welcome your assistance.Farm and Gardens
From weeding to fences, we have a number of jobs that are waiting for help from eager and experienced volunteersAdministration
On an ad-hoc basis, Pegasus may require some administration assistance.

Required for volunteers 16+. Free for volunteers.
Training
Provided on-site. Specific training required regardless of prior experience.

To begin your journey as a Pegasus volunteer, follow the simple steps below.
Attend an Information Session
Register to attend one of our information sessions where you will be able to see exactly what it is we do and get a feel if this is something you would like to do.
If you do feel it is something you wish to proceed with, you will then be given information to register. This will be the start of what we hope to be a long and enjoyable journey with Pegasus.

Apply for your Working With Vulnerable People Card by registering online.
This can take several weeks to be processed and is a good idea to get started on early. It is free for volunteers — just nominate Riding for the Disabled of ACT as your place of choice.
Volunteer Code of Conduct
Pegasus Riding for the Disabled of the ACT requires all volunteers, including but not limited to; Board Members, stable hands, program volunteers, garden, office, and farm volunteers to comply with the Riding for the Disabled Association of Australia Volunteer Code of Conduct.
